My top 3 non-negotiables to thrive in September (as a teacher or not!)

Regardless if you’re a teacher (like myself) or not, there is a back-to-school kind of feeling in the air! I love a good routine but I need to make sure it’s going to actually sustain me more than just allow me to coast in survival mode. I want to share with you my top 3 non-negotiables I set-up for the month of September to keep my energy up even with all the unknowns that a new season brings! This is my approach to these 3 topic so I share in hopes of setting you up to reflect on your own non-negotiables! It’s the small things that will make ALL the difference this month!

1) Work-related technology - let’s start with the sticky one!

Here is how I manage this one: The gods of Google calendar allow my 5, yes 5, calendars to merge so I can keep on top of work-related events + personal events + LIA project events, etc. I allow my work events to come through on my phone so I can choose to look at my phone’s memo page. In terms of word-related emails, I have the app for my work emails on my phone, however I have it set that it sends me ZERO notifications. So when I receive emails, I only ever see them if I open the app, thus allowing myself to check my emails if I feel I need to on my phone. Otherwise, I have office hours for myself as well as a 24 hours response time if I feel I need more time before responding.

2) SNACKS - it deserves the caps lock!

I’m gonna let you in on a secret. I have to make sure I’m stocked at work because be HANGRY is a real thing for me. So, I order online snacks from well.ca (a Canadian company) that has an amazing selection of healthy snack options and I get them delivered directly to work! I put in about one order ever 2 months so I’m always stocked!

3) Appointments, appointments, appointments

Before things start to pick-up pace at work, I make sure I have a self care apt set… and like not a doctor’s kind of apt, like a self-indulging body/energy replenish experience, ex. massage, acupuncture, cupping, etc. I encourage you to really get to know your insurance and benefit accounts! I know I’m contributing to them monthly so I’ve got to make sure my money is being used for the good!

And there you have it! Obviously, this is a very personal view, but I enjoy talking about boundaries that I set in my calendar because I know my energy will be lower than normal this month as I adjust to the change of routine and of course this always trickles down to my ability to serve my students. Happy teacher, happy classroom!

I’d love if you comment below with your #1 self care non-negotiable for your coming month!

Xo,

Carolina

What Self Love Really Means

What Self Love Really Means

Some days we’re on top of the world. Some days we feel like we’re at the very bottom. Some days I have the energy to teach grade 2 all day, get to the gym, write a blog and make an amazing dinner for my partner and I. Some days I can barely get through my morning muesli. And the self-talk I have on those days can differ as significantly as my energy levels…
